FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 10, 2025 – Missouri City, Texas
With autumn at our doorstep, many families are gearing up to host lavish Thanksgiving (or Christmas) dinners. However, some in our community face empty pantries and ongoing stress about the rising costs of living. Fort Bend Care Center (The Care Center) provides a weekly Food Market and monthly Food Fair in partnership with the Houston Food Bank to meet our community’s food security needs. The Care Center also provides a variety of health, education and spiritual programs.
To meet growing needs in the community, the Care Center is thrilled to announce significant progress on its capital campaign, aimed to build a 14,000 square-foot facility that will double its capacity to serve. The new facility will include early childhood education and adult learning classrooms, as well as flexible program space to provide food, health and wellness and spiritual support to local families. Thanks to the generosity of its donors, the campaign has reached an important milestone, with gifts and pledges totaling nearly 90% of the $5.6 million goal.
Major funders have awarded grants that played a key role in accelerating the campaign’s success:
- The George Foundation provided a $750,000 matching grant, which has already been fully matched by donors, effectively doubling the impact of contributions. The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation recently offered a $500,000 challenge grant.
- Other major gifts have been received from the Fondren Foundation, William Stamps Farish Fund, Baxter Trust, corporate donors and employee matching programs and many individual donors.
To cross the finish line, the Care Center will need to raise the remaining $738,500. “We are incredibly grateful for the support of our donors and these generous grants,” said Mei Wong, Fort Bend Care Center President. “Major gifts like these inspire our community to give and allow every contribution to go further. With your help, we are one step closer to breaking ground for the new building.”
