Our Story

Fort Bend Care Center exists to transform community wellness in the Fort Bend County through literacy, health, spiritual, and wellness programs.

Fort Bend Care Center was started at the end of 2017 as a ministry of Fort Bend Community Church. It began when members of the church recognized that there were needs in the community that were not being met, especially when it came to English, health, and financial empowerment. In 2018, Fort Bend Care Center was established as a 501c3 Non-profit Organization. Most of the people we serve live within a 5 mile radius of our center.

With 24% of people in Fort Bend County having limited English proficiency, this means over 171,000 people cannot fill out a job application, communicate with the doctor, or perform daily tasks such as navigating the roads or reading a bedtime story. To help people develop English literacy, Fort Bend Care Center offers Adult Education courses such as English as a Second Language (ESL) and English Conversation. In the first two years of offering literacy programs, we have seen the number of students double.

According to the 2008 American Community Survey, over 7.10% of the population in Fort Bend County live below the poverty line, including 8.50% of children (under age 18) and 9.40% of seniors (over age 65). To help improve quality of life and equip people for better employment opportunities, Fort Bend Care Center offers courses in the GED (General Education Development) preparation. To support immigrants in our community, Fort Bend Care Center offers a Citizenship Class.

Fort Bend Care Center also hosts a Health Clinic, run by Access Health, to provide adult and pediatric care for our community, particularly to those lacking health insurance coverage.

Every third Saturday of the month, Fort Bend Care Center partners with Second Mile to run a Food Fair, offering assistance to about 100 families and distributing 10,000 lbs of fresh produce.
