A native Houstonian, Kirk Craig is a passionate leader dedicated to transforming communities through faith, enterprise, and asset-based development. As the CEO and Co-Founder of Agape Development, Kirk has devoted his life to serving his neighbors and building up leaders in the OST/South Union community.

Kirk's commitment to service began as a teen going on church mission trips to Mexico.  While studying economics at the University of Virginia, Kirk remained actively engaged in ministry, serving in multiple leadership roles with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship..  After graduating in 2000, he served as a missionary in San Ignacio, Bolivia, where he focused on church planting, evangelism, and creating a vocational carpentry training program for young men in poverty.

Upon returning to the U.S., Kirk pursued a Master of Arts in Christian Formation and Ministry at Wheaton College, while gaining valuable experience in the non-profit sector, including serving the homeless and unemployed in Chicago’s west side. This prepared him for the most significant work of his career: co-founding Agape Development.

In 2005, Kirk and his wife Amanda moved into the Third Ward to launch Agape Development, a community development organization committed to holistic growth. Kirk has evolved his leadership role from Executive Director to CEO, guiding the organization's exponential success and impact.

Under his leadership, Agape Development has experienced remarkable growth, including the staff increasing from an initial 2 employees to 35 employees, all working and often living in the 77021 neighborhood. Agape launched 2 social enterprises which provided job readiness and placement for young adults and ex-offenders through businesses like lawn care and home remodeling.

A hallmark of Agape’s commitment to sustainable community development is the successful launch of Agape Homes CDC. This initiative has been instrumental in addressing gentrification and the need for safe, affordable housing. To date, Agape Homes CDC has been responsible for the building and sale of 54 affordable homes, providing homeownership opportunities for low-income neighbors. In addition, the organization has established affordable rental units in a repurposed motel, further expanding housing solutions.

Kirk and Amanda celebrated 24 years of marriage this year and continue to live and serve in the OST/South Union community where they started their work. Their 5 children and 1 daughter-in-law range from middle school to full time employment. When not leading Agape Development, Kirk enjoys spending time with his family, often hunting, fishing, and cycling.
