Learning English and Building Community
The 2025–2026 ESL Program at The Care Center served a total of 99 students.
Classes were held every Wednesday during the school year, beginning with English Conversation at 9:00 a.m., where students practiced speaking and listening skills in a safe and encouraging environment, followed by ESL classes from 10:00–11:30 a.m. using the Side-By-Side curriculum. Students ranged from Basic through Level 5. They also work on the Learning Upgrade Phone App to complete their level certificates.
Our ESL program remained committed to providing a welcoming, supportive, and encouraging environment where students could continue learning English, building confidence, and finding community connection.
Highlights of the year included three community luncheons — the Christmas celebration, Spring Social, and End-of-Year Party — where students shared cultures, customs, and personal presentations. These gatherings provided meaningful opportunities to build community, learn from one another, and practice public speaking skills.
Students in our ESL program were encouraged and rewarded for their hard work. Participants could earn gift cards for completing Learning Upgrade app level certificates, as well as for strong attendance. This year, we awarded 89 Learning Upgrade level completion certificates, and 56 students received a total of 81 gift cards for their awards. Our students showed tremendous dedication, perseverance, and commitment to improving their English skills!
Next year’s ESL program will start in September. We are looking for ESL Tutor volunteers. Please contact us if you are interested in contributing to the growth and well-being of these students.
